Frequently Asked questions

Do I have to register with the county or submit paperwork or annual reviews if my child is registered in private school? The answer is no. If your child is enrolled in private school they do not also need to register as a homeschooler. Testing policies, procedures, coursework and graduation requirements are determined by each private school and here at TFS we do not require that you submit any coursework to us or be evaluated or tested. It is recommended that you retain examples of your child's learning materials, personal experiences and that you give them an annual placement test for your own records or to monitor your child's personal enrichment, but it completely optional.

Does TFS participate in any scholarships? We are a tuition free virtual private school so there are no costs involved to attend and therefore we do not offer any scholarships.

Do you have graduation from high school and award high school diplomas? Yes, students can graduate from TFS, but we don't offer a commencement or graduation ceremony. We do grant graduating seniors a diploma and can provide more information to those who qualify.

Can a student get advanced placement or college credit while attending TFS? Some colleges will allow dual enrollment with TFS, but check with your institution. TFS students are eligible for advanced placement, but you would need to contact the institution to register for the class and get testing information and pay them directly.

What colleges can I attend after graduation and are students eligible for college scholarships or state financial aid? This is a complex issue and it is up to each family how to prepare their children for college and how to meet the immense financial burden attending college can bring. Private school students, like those at TFS, are eligible for financial aid but the requirements vary by state. Check with your state and college registrar for their guidelines. It is wise to apply to a few institutions to increase chances of acceptance. A good score on an entrance exam like the SAT or ACT usually will seal the deal. If the college or university of your choice doesn't accept your transcript from TFS then attending a community college for a semester or year or to earn an associates will make it possible to then transfer to a four year college degree program.
